On Friday, 15th November 2024, the Coordinating Office of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project 2 (GPSNP 2), in collaboration with the Ho West District Assembly, officially handed over the Abutia Kpota, Dzolokpuita, Kpedze Todze, and Biakpa project sites to the respective beneficiary communities for continued maintenance and management.
The handed-over sites include:
A 5-hectare coconut plantation at Dzolokpuita.
A 5-hectare citrus plantation at Kpedze Todze.
A 5-hectare citrus plantation at Avatime Biakpa.
A 7-hectare cashew plantation at Abutia Kpota.
In his welcome address, the District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Seth Rashid Asou, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their dedication and contributions to the project’s success despite various challenges. He also reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to providing ongoing support for the project.
Dr. William Kwabena Nantwi, the Coordinator for the Koforidua Zone, underscored the vital roles of traditional leaders, Farm Management Committees (FMCs), beneficiaries, and the entire community in ensuring the plantations are effectively managed and maintained to yield long-term benefits.
Dr. Nantwi further reassured the beneficiaries of efforts to enroll them in the Complementary Livelihood and Asset Support Scheme (CLASS), a sub-project under the Productive Inclusion (PI) component of GPSNP 2. The CLASS initiative aims to provide cash grants to beneficiaries, empowering them to engage in sustainable income-generating enterprises.
The beneficiaries, in turn, appealed to the District Assembly to improve access by expanding the roads leading to the farms.
